The list displays this information.

Column Description

Name

Lists the names of each OAI-PMH site harvester you have set up.

URL

Lists the Universal Resource Locator for each

Harvest Status

Displays the status of the OAI-PMH harvest.

Note: Only one harvest can be running at a time. All harvest icons for all other harvest sites are disabled while a harvest is running.

Last Harvest

Displays the date when the last harvest, either full or delta, was completed.

Management options

Let you edit and delete the site definitions. You can also trigger full harvest of the provider site to replace items in the current site folder, or you harvest only updated items (also called a delta harvest) to replace only those items in the folder. Delta harvests take less time and allow you to update items without replacing any modification you have made to the hierarchy and to items that have not been updated by the provider.

You have these options:

Option Description

Add Site

Lets you create a definition that allows Portfolio to harvest metadata from a provider’s asset repository.

Abort running harvest

Immediately cancels the harvest. Assets imported previous to aborting the harvest are retained in the target directory in the repository.

Edit OAI-PMH Harvest Site Details

Lets you change the name, URL, and target folder for the OAI-PMH site.

Harvest All Assets (Complete Harvest)

Harvests all of the asset metadata available from the site. When any harvest is in progress, this option becomes disabled for all sites to prevent multiple harvests from running concurrently.

Important: A full harvest replaces all of the asset metadata that was previously harvested. In essence, the entire OAI-PMH folder for the site will be deleted and the data from the new full harvest will replace it.

If you want to save any changes made within the site’s OAI-PMH folder, you will need to move all of the asset records out of the folder to a different folder.

The metadata of items that are linked from the folder will also be replaced. Any changes made to metadata or properties of these items will be replaced by the newly harvested items in the site’s OAI-PMH folder.

Harvest New Or Modified Assets (Delta Harvest)

Harvests all of the updated metadata from the site. The harvester replaces only those items that were updated on the OAI-PMH provider’s site. Any items in your repository that are linked to an item in the OAI-PMH folder will be updated if the respective item in the folder is updated. Items that have been moved from the site’s OAI-PMH folder will not be updated.

When any harvest is in progress, this option becomes disabled for all sites to prevent multiple harvests from running concurrently.

Remove this site

Lets you remove the site from the list. When you delete a site, the harvested metadata remains in your repository until you delete it in Assets.

Note: It is impossible to delete an OAI-PMH harvest site while the site has a running harvest. In order to delete the site, you must abort the harvest or wait until it has completed.
